I’m well on my way to baking and prepping for some NYE treats that I am going to share later, but in the meantime, I wanted to share these pictures from my family’s Christmas dinner.  My aunts J & C sure know how to make things look beautiful!  I love that this tablescape looks so simple and clean!  If you give yourself a simple base (like white, which is always my favorite) you can interchange colors for any event/activity!

One of my favorite things are these beautiful star ornaments that my Aunt R makes!  She makes them in all different colors and then dips them in wax…they are fantastic!  I will share more pictures of those later… 🙂

Simplicity Goes a Long Way…

I’ve been sworn to secrecy with this family recipe, but wanted to share pictures of these adorable cookies!  My family makes these Christmas cookies every year and they are such a simple cookie, but delicious!  Frosting them is a MUST!  I think these are a perfect example that you don’t have to make super difficult recipes for anything, but if you take the time to decorate things and focus on the presentation it changes everything!  Check out these beauties…

Texas Chili

This year, I decided that making Christmas breakfast would be my job.  After flipping through countless recipes, I decided on a quiche-type dish that we like to call Texas Chili (although, I’m not entirely sure why).  It’s a recipe we got from a family friend that she discovered while living in Texas.  It makes a lot, so I decided to half it for today.  Best wishes for a Merry Christmas today!

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs. Monterey Jack Cheese
  • 1lbs. Cheddar Cheese
  • 6 Eggs
  • 1 – 5oz. Can Evaporated Milk
  • 3 – 4oz. Can Diced Green Chilis
  • Dash of Cayenne Pepper
  • Splash of Worcestershire Sauce

Mix all ingredients together and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until slightly browned on top.

Cupcake Surprise!

Tomorrow is my last day of work before the holidays and I can’t wait!  I had my friend Vanessa over tonight and we made my favorite lemon bar recipe so she could share treats with people tomorrow.  I snuck a couple of pictures and will share them along with the recipe tomorrow, but until then, take a look at the sweet surprise I got at work today along with two of my other favorite ladies!  Aren’t they the cutest cupcakes ever?!?

These tasty things sure made the day better!!

Lemon Bars

Lemon bars are one of my favorite desserts and I think this recipe is one of the best!  If you want a super simple dish to make for any party this holiday this season, this should be it!    This is from the lovely Paula Deen, so you need to remember to totally ignore the ingredients.  Just remember that they taste delicious and don’t think about Paula and her butter! 😉  

The only tip/trick I will share is that I don’t use real lemon juice. I have tried it both ways and it never seems to turn out right with the real stuff…go figure…
